Pre-Emptive Damage Control

Mother's Day weekend and I'm reminded of something my Mom always used to say:
"If you can't say anything nice about someone, don't say anything at all."
Wise words to live by. 
But - there are times when writing copy, you shouldn't do what Mom told you.  Sometimes you have to say something that's not so nice...
